Aftercare Fund
America’s Pastime Stables Aftercare Fund
America’s Pastime Stables is excited to announce the formation of a charitable subsidiary foundation, America’s Pastime Stables Aftercare Fund. The main focus of the Aftercare Fund will be to ensure that all horses, past or present, owned by America’s Pastime Stables, will be able to be rehomed after their racing career is over. Donations to other national aftercare charities will also be part of the mission.
Longtime New York trainer Richard Schosberg, who also serves as President of the Take the Lead Thoroughbred Aftercare Program and is a Board Memeber of the Thoroughbred Aftercare Alliance, commended America’s Pastime Stables for this initiative. “The responsibility for safe, proper, and purposeful retirement of these regal and beautiful animals lies with the industry itself. Owner entities like America’s Pastime Stables are taking a lead position by setting aside a special retirement fund for every horse purchased by them. This will help to ensure that the rehabilitation, retraining and rehoming of their retirees will be funded through accredited organizations that specialize in these tasks. A big ‘Thank You’ from your horses and those of us in the business of Thoroughbred Aftercare“, said Schosberg.
The not-for-profit will raise money a variety of ways including added fees on purchases of all horses by the stable, donations and fundraisers – all to support the Thoroughbred Aftercare cause.
“The Thoroughbred Retirement Foundation applauds APS for taking this important step intended to ensure a soft landing for the horses owned and raced by the partnership when their racing careers are done. The creation of the APS Aftercare Fund also sends a clear and meaningful message to the APS partners about the importance of Thoroughbred Aftercare as an essential responsibility for all owners. We commend APS for this thoughtful, responsible gesture and hope they might inspire others to follow their example”, added Kim Weir Director of Major Gifts for The Thoroughbred Retirement Foundation.
